Bicycle Portraits

Everyday South Africans and their bicycles. A photographic book in the making.

Photographers Stan Engelbrecht and Nic Grobler are using the pledge-for-reward Kickstarter social platform to take pre-orders (with benefits) for a photographic book they are working on about contemporary South African bicycle commuter culture.  A $50 pledge for example is essentially a pre-order for the book. If they do not reach their funding goal the project will be cancelled and no pledges will be forwarded from the project backers to them.

Only 23 days left.

Sh! Awards 2010

25 May 2010

Are you a talented, creative student?

Here is a chance to pitch your work to influential creative directors, show off your work in an exhibition and, win a 6-month paid placement. There’s no brief, no fee and no catch, simply enter your best creative work. Your entry will be judged by award-winning creatives and professionals from the UK design industry.

The Sh! awards is an annual scheme launched by Brahm in 2003 to celebrate the memory of designer Stuart Hocknell who sadly died from Meningitis when in his prime, he was always keen to encourage students and placements.

A worthwhile competition, more information here

I checked out Iron Man 2 recently and was really inspired by all the next-level user interface in Tony Stark’s crazy studio. They were created by Prologue. Check out the rest of their title sequences and visual effects here.

Postmammal is the work of Robert Murdock, who is also a CCO at Method SF.

Tom Lane, also known as Ginger Monkey, is an illustrator and designer from England. His work is really colorful, well executed and documented. It’s nice to see from time to time the development of a project especially if it was done by hand.

Chicago based Sonnenzimmer is creating some of the most unique posters around. I love the abstraction and color palette. The studio is comprised of  Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi, who both worked out of the Bird Machine for several years, mentored by Jay Ryan.
