Art of the Title

27 September 2008

Art of the Title has quite an extensive archive of quicktime title sequences from over 80 movies. Pretty nice little resource. Shown above: Stranger Than Fiction by MK12.

The songs by Tom Erickson of Dear Ether are weirdly cool in the best of ways. His lyrics are complex and smart – with a twist, while still sounding quirky and pop. Like much of this country’s great DIY talent right now, he is located in the green city / artist haven of Portland, OR.

You can have a listen at the Dear Ether MySpace page to hear more and show the love.

I love this fashion portrait by Photographer Mike Schreiber. He has the gift of making anyone real.

If you meet Mike in person you can immediately tell he has a way with people. He is friendly, approachable and likeable. This is exactly how his pictures show his subjects. Even celebrities feel like they are just one of us.

Look through his website and you will see some familiar faces mixed in with those you’re sure you met just the other night.

His style makes any person feel familiar and that is what makes his photography… his; old school style.

LucyandBart is a collaboration between Lucy McRae and Bart Hess described as an instinctual stalking of fashion, architecture, performance and the body. They share a fascination with genetic manipulation and beauty expression. Unconsciously their work touches upon these themes, however it is not their intention to communicate this. They work in a primitive and limitless way creating future human shapes, blindly discovering low – tech prosthetic ways for human enhancement.

Their work is inspiring in that it shares a completely organic vision still accessible through a pretty package… so to speak. Take a look at the links and you will not be disappointed.

Advanced Style

24 September 2008

If this blog was a 70 year old woman or man, would it have as much style as these people? It should hope so.

The masthead on Advanced Style says it all: “Proof from the wizened and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age.”

Christoph Niemann

24 September 2008

Christoph Niemann is an illustrator living in Berlin. His work has appeared on numerous New Yorker covers, The NY Times Magazine, Atlantic Monthly… He’s also the author of a couple of children’s books – his new one, “The Pet Dragon,” teaches kids about Chinese characters. On the side he writes for the NY Times Opinion Art Blog, Abstract City – which currently has a really great post on the artful design process of his new bathroom.
