Dollar Rede$ign

14 September 2010

Organized by Richard Smith, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project hopes to bring about change for everyone. They want to rebrand the US Dollar, rebuild financial confidence and revive our failing economy. The specific design above was created by Dowling | Duncan, a design studio in San Francisco and England.

This is one of the worst designs I’ve seen in quite awhile. Don’t you realize that the current bills are designed to thwart forgeries? This bill looks like it could be copied by any person owning a copy of Photoshop. Beyond this fact there are so many other problems with the design.

I think you are right on that one. Its one of the most simplistic designs and chances are it would have been reproduced quite easily. However Mr. Dowling hoped to design a bill that has more of an aesthetic appeal. Sure this may not work in real life, but at least its a good practice for him as a designer. I give this guy a credit. One would have to consider technical properties of the bill and then establish the design accordingly. Thats how I see it. You could design a bill just for the sake of practice.

This reminds me way too much of the Los Angeles Metro Day passes of not so long ago.
And sure it’s good practice, but the design isn’t very good.

this is a little something most have heard but did anyone see about the new show Bridalplasty extreme makeover I think everyone is really interested in this subject and really should take some soul searching into what the show is about people sometimes look to make changes from the outside in.
