This photo was the 1st place winner at the annual Science as Art competition in San Francisco, held by the Materials Research Society.

“Color-enhanced scanning electron micrograph of an overflowed electrodeposited magnetic nanowire array (CoFeB), where the template has been subsequently completely etched. It’s a reminder that nanoscale research can have unpredicted consequences at a high level.”

China has the most sophisticated internet censoring system of any nation in the world. And they’re getting reamed for it in the media right now, of course not in their own probably. If you type “Tibet riots” into Google in China, you get an error message.

Pixar: live-action

Brad Bird, director of Ratatouille and The Iron Giant, is staged to start filming his first live-action film with Disney/Pixar and Warner Bros called 1906. The movie is based on the Great Earthquake of 1906 which hit San Francisco. More here.
