Animal identity

Wolfette by Kimberly BakerBlack Unicorn Earrings by Kimberly BakerRosethorn pendant by Kimberly Baker

There is an excellent documentary by Ward Serrill called, “ The Heart of the Game”. Its about the challenging relationship between adrenalized high school girls’ basketball coach Bill Resler and star player Darnellia Russell. The Coach has an empowering approach towards inspiring his team; he has them imagine themselves to be a pack of wolves, each one being a part of the pack with their own unique personal touch. Together they attack their competition with respect whilst also ripping them to shreds.

Upon seeing this film you will feel ready to take on the world, as well as find your own animal identity! Why not show everyone around just who you are inside, by wearing it on the outside?

Envision the flower etched wolf head ring by Northwest designer Kimberly Baker on your finger as a symbol of that inner power you have against life’s opposition.

If wolves are too aggressive, perhaps unicorn horns, or a golden rose thorn will show the world your mission with a more delicate touch?

All of these identities can be found… here.

Margiela Spring 2009

Born in Belgium(1959), Martin Margiela makes innovative solutions for todays lifestyle. He also pushes his models to their absolute peek performance (as you can see in this photograph where they cannot see as they walk).

His recent runway show, during the Paris Spring 2009 fashion week, showed such a focused sophistication (with his quirky signature twist) that those of you who are hungry for clean lines and graphic shapes will want to take a look through in the slide show.

Margiela has also long been respected for his dedication to deconstruction and recycled materials. His ideas are progressive and architectural all the way.

Oroma Elewa

I love this fashion portrait by Photographer Mike Schreiber. He has the gift of making anyone real.

If you meet Mike in person you can immediately tell he has a way with people. He is friendly, approachable and likeable. This is exactly how his pictures show his subjects. Even celebrities feel like they are just one of us.

Look through his website and you will see some familiar faces mixed in with those you’re sure you met just the other night.

His style makes any person feel familiar and that is what makes his photography… his; old school style.

LUCYANDBART

LucyandBart is a collaboration between Lucy McRae and Bart Hess described as an instinctual stalking of fashion, architecture, performance and the body. They share a fascination with genetic manipulation and beauty expression. Unconsciously their work touches upon these themes, however it is not their intention to communicate this. They work in a primitive and limitless way creating future human shapes, blindly discovering low – tech prosthetic ways for human enhancement.

Their work is inspiring in that it shares a completely organic vision still accessible through a pretty package… so to speak. Take a look at the links and you will not be disappointed.
