Tae Won Yu

17 August 2010

One of my earliest influences in design is none other than Tae Won Yu. His work for the Olympia, WA music scene circa the 90′s showed me design could be both playful and expressive. Looking at his work challenged me to break down boundaries I was taught in school. From Built to Spill’s ‘Perfect From Now On’ to Versus latest release, ‘On the One’s and Threes’, Tae continues to remind me why I love to do what I do.

I’m happy to announce my new monthly podcast, Psychometry, a continuous DJ mix of electronic, deep house, techno with a splash of pop and indie. You can subscribe to it via iTunes. I find it interesting that a lot of designers I know are also DJ’s. With that said for future episodes I plan on splitting the mix between myself and a guest DJ. In the meantime enjoy.

I checked out Iron Man 2 recently and was really inspired by all the next-level user interface in Tony Stark’s crazy studio. They were created by Prologue. Check out the rest of their title sequences and visual effects here.

Tom Lane, also known as Ginger Monkey, is an illustrator and designer from England. His work is really colorful, well executed and documented. It’s nice to see from time to time the development of a project especially if it was done by hand.

Chicago based Sonnenzimmer is creating some of the most unique posters around. I love the abstraction and color palette. The studio is comprised of  Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi, who both worked out of the Bird Machine for several years, mentored by Jay Ryan.
